SPECIAL NEEDS
The entire team at Journey Kids Dental are passionate about caring for our patients with special needs. We have the experience to treat every patient with compassion, and we love to have fun with all of our patients! We are honored to treat patients with special needs such as autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, and other physical, medical, developmental or cognitive conditions that require special consideration. If your child has special needs, please let us know and we will collaborate with you to make their experience a positive one!
In case your child is unable to cooperate at chairside we have options to treat under general anesthesia at the hospital.
F.A.Q.
How can we prepare for the appointment?
Many of our patients with special needs like to know exactly what to expect. Talk about the upcoming appointment together; don’t wait until the last minute to tell them about it. This will help them form positive associations with our team, which will make future visits so much easier! Show them YouTube videos, draw pictures, or just talk about what’s going to happen during their appointment.
Can you accommodate my child’s sensory issues?
Yes! If possible, we’ll schedule you during a non-busy time when there’s less activity in the office. We can dim the lights and eliminate distractions in the office. During the appointment, we get down on your child’s level and explain what we’re going to be doing and show them the our tools. We’ll let them look the tools over and ask questions. We do whatever it takes to make it a less frightening experience for them!
Should I bring anything special to the appointment?
Bring anything that helps your child feel more comfortable like a blanket, stuffed animal, or favorite toy. Also, bring books, magazines, tablets, phones, or other activities to keep them preoccupied while they’re waiting for the dentist to see them!
